About Nereid
The third largest moon of Neptune, discovered by Gerard Kuiper in 1949. Has the most eccentric orbit of any known moon, ranging from 1.4 to 9.7 million km from the planet. The wild orbit supports the idea that the capture of Triton disrupted the original system. Takes 360 days to complete one circuit. Named after the sea nymphs of Greek mythology.
