Target of the NASA Deep Impact mission, which fired a 370 kg copper impactor into it in 2005. The collision revealed fine dusty material beneath the surface. Visited again by Stardust-NExT in 2011 to photograph the man-made crater. Discovered by Wilhelm Tempel in 1867.
