Pallas
About Pallas
The third most massive asteroid, holding about 7 percent of the belt mass. Its orbit is tilted 35 degrees, unusually steep, carrying it far above the ecliptic plane. Likely a remnant protoplanet that never grew larger. Discovered by Heinrich Olbers in 1802, only the second asteroid found. A rare B-type object rich in primitive material. The Pallas family of fragments formed in an ancient collision.
