Miranda
About Miranda
A patchwork moon of Uranus with some of the most extreme terrain in the solar system. Home to Verona Rupes, a cliff up to 20 km high, the tallest known anywhere. Its jumbled surface suggests the moon was shattered and reassembled, or reshaped by dramatic tectonics. Discovered by Gerard Kuiper in 1948. Voyager 2 flew within 30,000 km in 1986. Named after a character in Shakespeares The Tempest.
