The Great Comet of 1965, a Kreutz sungrazer that passed within 450,000 km of the solar surface. Visible in broad daylight near perihelion. Broke into three pieces under solar tides. Discovered independently by Kaoru Ikeya and Tsutomu Seki. The brightest comet of the 20th century.
