Gonggong
About Gonggong
One of the largest trans-Neptunian objects, traveling on a stretched orbit through the scattered region. Has one of the reddest surfaces known, painted by irradiated methane compounds called tholins. Has a moon named Xiangliu. Currently about 88 AU away, among the farthest known dwarf planets. Discovered in 2007 by Megan Schwamb and collaborators. Named after a Chinese water god with a serpent tail.
