About Eros
The first near-Earth asteroid ever discovered, found in 1898. Became the first asteroid orbited by a spacecraft when NEAR Shoemaker arrived in 2000, and the first landed on in 2001. Shaped like an elongated peanut about 34 km long. Early parallax measurements of it helped refine the astronomical unit. One of the largest near-Earth asteroids.
