About Pasiphae

The largest member of the retrograde Pasiphae group. Orbits Jupiter backwards, indicating it was captured rather than formed in place. Discovered by Philibert Melotte in 1908. Likely a fragment of a captured C-type asteroid that broke apart long ago. Takes almost two Earth years to circle Jupiter once. More than 20 known moons share its distant backwards orbit.
