Himalia
About Himalia
The largest of the irregular moons of Jupiter and namesake of the Himalia group. Discovered by Charles Perrine in 1904. Orbits in a prograde direction about 11.5 million km out. Likely a captured fragment of a C-type asteroid from the early solar system. The Galileo spacecraft imaged it from 4.4 million km away in 2000. Roughly 170 known moons share similar orbits in this group.
