About Amalthea

The largest of the inner moons of Jupiter and one of the reddest objects in the solar system. Discovered by Edward Barnard in 1892, the last moon of any planet found by direct visual observation. Shaped like an elongated potato. Orbits inside the Gossamer Ring and contributes material to it. Bombarded by ions from the magnetosphere of Jupiter, giving it a reddish hue. Largest crater, Pan, is about 90 km across.
