Phoebe
About Phoebe
A dark retrograde moon of Saturn, almost certainly a captured Centaur from the outer solar system. Orbits backwards, opposite the rotation of Saturn. Discovered by William Pickering in 1899, the first moon found photographically. The Cassini spacecraft mapped it in 2004, revealing a layered interior that formed early in solar system history. Dust spiraling inward from Phoebe darkens the leading face of Iapetus.
