About Pan
A walnut-shaped moon orbiting inside the Encke Gap of the A ring of Saturn. Its gravity keeps the 325 km gap clear, earning it the title of shepherd moon. Discovered by Mark Showalter in 1990 while analyzing old Voyager images. Cassini close-ups from 2017 revealed a skirt of ring material around its equator, giving it a ravioli-like look. The innermost named moon of Saturn.
