About Atlas
A small moon orbiting just outside the A ring of Saturn. Has a dramatic flying saucer shape with a prominent equatorial ridge. The ridge likely accumulated from ring particles over millions of years. Discovered by Richard Terrile in 1980 from Voyager 1 images. Acts as a shepherd for the outer edge of the A ring. Named after the Titan who holds up the sky.
